Melbourne’s RMIT partners with Interfolio to digitise its academic promotion and reporting framework

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — SEPTEMBER 2, 2020 — RMIT University today announced its investment in technology to support academic development and recognition. By partnering with Interfolio, the creator of the leading Faculty Information System (FIS), RMIT further bolsters its support of its over 2,000 academic staff members.

The partnership, spearheaded by Interfolio’s Oceania services and support partner Edalex, culminates a multi-year process led by RMIT leadership to refine and standardise the expectations and processes around academic promotion. The technology from Interfolio will allow RMIT to realise the full potential of the new framework by providing a platform to evidence academic achievements and research outcomes. Additionally, it will streamline the logistics of the annual review process reducing the significant administrative work of both individual faculty and faculty committee members.

“At RMIT, we realize that our academic staff are our most important resource. As such, we have been proactively assessing how we can support all academics to develop and progress at our institution,” says Marilyn Capper, Director, Academic Development and Workforce Transformation. “Our partnership with Interfolio allows us to evidence the important contributions of our academics over the entire staff lifecycle, allowing a more accessible, customised and equitable promotion process for all our staff, irrespective of academic discipline, job role, or professional focus.”

A key component that RMIT considered when transitioning to a digital platform was the ability for each academic to tell their unique story. Additionally, RMIT required integrations with existing platforms, especially Workday, its system of record for payroll and employment status for its 6,000 employees. RMIT will also use Interfolio to provide reporting for external compliance needs, including national regulatory audits, with data around academic progression, development, and credentialing.

“True teamwork between RMIT, Interfolio and Edalex delivered an innovative solution under aggressive timelines,” states Dan McFadyen, Managing Director of Edalex. “With this technology, RMIT now has a system to support its academic staff and their career development. As a company dedicated to extracting hidden value from educational data to make it accessible and more meaningful, we were pleased to work alongside Interfolio to realize the full potential of its faculty-centric platform at RMIT.”

Andrew Rosen, Interfolio CEO, expands: “Our focus has always been on streamlining and digitizing the complex processes involved in shared governance and peer review to ease the administrative burdens on administrators and academic staff, while empowering scholars to showcase their significant academic contributions in ways to tell their best story. By deploying Interfolio’s modern academic information system to the benefit of its academic constituencies, RMIT joins its leading peers across global higher education in modernizing its approach to accomplishing its academic mission.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 2, 2020 – Gartner, the world’s leading research and advisory company, named, for the first time, Faculty Information Systems (FISs) in its annual list of strategic technologies for higher education in 2020. Interfolio is a developer of a holistic Faculty Information System now used by over 300 institutions, which is emblematic of the trend toward increased institutional investment in technology to manage and support faculty research, careers, and shared governance.

“Faculty are at the core of every aspect of institutional strategy and success, from tuition and funded research revenues to student success, governance and equity, to reputation and rank,” said Andrew Rosen, CEO of Interfolio. “I believe Gartner’s research provides powerful validation of Faculty Information Systems as a category. Further, I feel it also reflects an increased institutional focus on investments in technology that support faculty and foster greater trust, transparency, and collaboration.”

The report, titled “Top 10 Strategic Technologies Impacting Higher Education in 2020,” includes FISs among other fast-growing technology investments including Artificial Intelligence Strategy, Nudge Tech and Tactics and Digital Credentialing Technologies. The report notes that “institutions with robust FIS functionality will also gain insights to drive efficiencies and effectiveness by optimizing this valuable HR and key capability in the higher education business model.” Gartner also states,

“institutions that lack the ability to accurately and quickly leverage faculty information run the risk of falling behind competitors that can use this information to obtain greater research funding and heightened reputation, among other things.”

Interfolio, which launched higher education’s first FIS in 2017, has seen strong adoption and renewal rates among U.S. institutions over the last 3 years. The Interfolio FIS platform offers a single-place for faculty and administrators to hire and recruit top talent, manage and report academic data and faculty lifecycles, streamline and digitize peer-oriented shared governance, and assess and report on research impacts.

“Institutions like ours are looking for solutions built specifically to address and streamline the complex challenges facing faculty,” said Alysia Loshbaugh, Assistant Vice President for Business Relationship Management, at Tulane University. “Interfolio’s platform has enabled us to streamline processes, unify various aspects of academic governance, and recruit and retain excellent faculty. This kind of technology is quickly becoming a must-have for presidents and provosts.”

For more than two decades, Interfolio has developed groundbreaking technology to support faculty at every phase of their academic careers. More than 700,000 scholars worldwide use Interfolio’s Dossier to track and manage academic materials. Over 100,000 researchers have found jobs, and 80,000 have completed a review or gained a promotion using Interfolio in the last 20 years.

In the coming year, Interfolio reports continued investment in the development of technology that will enable even greater interoperability between the Faculty Information System and its newest product, Lifecycle Management, which allows for strategic management of faculty appointments. The company will launch new reporting and analytics capabilities to unlock additional insights into faculty data contained in the Faculty Information System and demonstrate the impact of faculty and institutions.

Massachusetts research university announces partnership with Faculty Information System Interfolio to power faculty advancement and recognize the total contributions of the faculty workforce

WORCESTER, MASS. — January 29, 2020 — Clark University, a private Massachusetts research university, announced today the launch of a new platform to more holistically recognize the teaching, research, and service of its faculty. Through a partnership with Faculty Information System Interfolio, Clark faculty can now seamlessly report and share their accomplishments during the annual review process, providing administrators with a comprehensive understanding of their faculty members’ expertise and career achievements.

“We know that our faculty are talented educators, prolific authors and researchers, and devoted mentors, but until recently we have lacked the infrastructure to fully appreciate the impact they make in support of our academic community and university mission,” said Yuko Aoyama, Clark’s Associate Provost and Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. “With Faculty Activity Reporting, faculty at Clark University has gained a tool to effectively showcase their scholarship to the broader community.”

With the Interfolio platform, Clark University faculty can now use an intuitive interface—specifically designed for them—to curate their research accomplishments and other scholarly activity, which they can share as part of the review process and use to gather information for grant proposals. Administrators can use the platform to view each faculty member’s teaching courseload and research, publishing, and service activities, providing a new level of insight into faculty members’ unique contributions to the university’s mission.

By providing an efficient process for reporting research activity, Clark University will use the platform to discover areas of faculty expertise, creating opportunities to elevate faculty members’ public profiles through public speaking and media interviews. Additionally, faculty can more easily recognize potential collaborators for grant proposals and other projects based on shared research interests.

“Colleges and universities are searching for novel ways to ensure that faculty members receive credit for the diverse—and sometimes overlooked—ways they contribute to institutional success. Faculty in turn are looking to translate their professional accomplishments into evidence of academic impact,” said Andrew Rosen, CEO of Interfolio. “Clark University’s work is reflective of their commitment to celebrating the unique value and impact of every faculty member.”

ABOUT CLARK UNIVERSITY

For more than 130 years, Clark University has thrived at the nexus of world-class teaching, boundary-pushing discovery, and creative invention. Today, Clark promotes a rigorous liberal arts curriculum within the context of a research experience that addresses social and scientific challenges on a global scale. Interfolio’s newest product, Lifecycle Management, helps colleges and universities empower faculty throughout their academic careers with digitized faculty roster and advancement system

WASHINGTON, D.C. — November 19, 2019 — Interfolio, architect of the Faculty Information System used by hundreds of colleges and universities worldwide, today announced the release of Lifecycle Management, a product that enables institutions to manage the appointment, workload, and advancement processes for an increasingly complex academic workforce.

Building on more than twenty years of experience designing advanced platforms to support and enable faculty advancement, Lifecycle Management provides institutions with unprecedented insight into the professional needs and experiences of both full- and part-time faculty—along with tools to support faculty during every phase of their careers.

“Having a system that supports the professional pathways of an active and diverse faculty is an administrative feat,” said Alyssa Kupka, Senior Associate Vice President and chief of staff to the provost at DePaul University. “With Interfolio Lifecycle Management, we see the possibilities of bringing together all of the facets of a faculty member’s journey—from their initial hire, through reviews, as they take on administrative and service appointments, take leave, and apply for and achieve tenure, promotion, and other milestones. When all of these paths come together, under a single system, it is not only powerful but a long-needed investment in the success of our faculty. More simply, when our faculty succeed, our students succeed—and isn’t that the ultimate goal? As administrators, we strive to support our scholars in every facet of their professional journeys and Lifecycle Management stands ready to provide a systematic architecture to help us do exactly that.”

With Lifecycle Management, Interfolio offers a unique approach by providing institutions with a single source for all of the faculty information that exists across campus in siloes. The product offers academic leadership the ability to quickly harness a roster of their entire faculty workforce, with easily-accessible information on contract conversations and commitments, review and promotion cycles, advancement pathways, and other bespoke academic details. Interfolio’s technology also digitizes and embeds each institution’s unique policies and procedures, enabling greater transparency into the typical timelines for review, tenure, and promotion across all academic roles, ranks, and titles.

“This work is about helping colleges and universities manage the complexities and unlock the full potential of the modern academic journey by aligning the capabilities and potential of faculty with critical institutional priorities,” said Andrew Rosen, CEO of Interfolio. “It enables institutions to streamline arduous data centric processes, centralize typically siloed processes, and reimagine the way that they recruit, retain, and reward faculty excellence. Our research shows these are almost universal goals in an era of heightened expectations, increasingly complex faculty responsibilities, and amplified demands for increased transparency and trust around faculty information.”

The Lifecycle Management product suite is now available as part of Interfolio’s Faculty Information System platform. For more information, visit www.interfolio.com.

Asian Institute of Management taps Interfolio’s Faculty Information System to attract and retain world-class faculty workforce and accelerate international expansion

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – October 31, 2019 – The Asian Institute of Management (AIM), the first international school of business in Southeast Asia to receive accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), today announced the launch of a new platform to provide their faculty workforce with holistic support throughout their entire academic lifecycle at the institution. Through a partnership with Interfolio, provider of their Faculty Information System, current and prospective faculty can now access a single workflow and reporting platform to accomplish critical tasks related to recruitment, promotion, and reporting processes.

“As a truly international institution serving executives and aspiring business leaders from nations across Southeast Asia, it’s imperative that we recruit and cultivate an academic workforce as global as the students we serve,” said Jammu Francisco, Associate Dean at the Asian Institute of Management. “Our engagement with Interfolio will enable us to maintain our competitive edge by attracting and retaining internationally-recognized research and teaching talent, while empowering current faculty with the tools to focus on teaching, scholarship, and service.”

With Interfolio, AIM will translate critical activities related to faculty recruitment, retention and development into streamlined, digital processes managed in an easy-to-use online environment. Using the Interfolio platform, faculty can more easily apply for open positions as internal candidates, manage review and promotion workflows, tell their holistic academic story and submit letters of recommendation. Administrators, meanwhile, will also use the platform to seamlessly share materials and collaborate during the hiring, review and promotion processes, reducing the burden of critical, often time-consuming administrative tasks.

With the Faculty Activity Reporting module, faculty can also use the Interfolio platform to curate and share research accomplishments, conference attendance and other scholarly activity, which they can also use during the review and promotion processes. The achievements shared using the platform will then feed into the institution’s ongoing international accreditation efforts.

The new rollout of the technology platform is part of AIM’s efforts to improve teaching and learning and increase efficiency across the institution through the adoption of new technology. AIM has earned accolades for its emphasis on innovation, including taking top honors for Technological Innovation of the Year at THE Awards Asia 2019.

“Talent knows no borders when it comes to world-class faculty. As graduate institutions operate in an increasingly global context, innovation in faculty recruitment and engagement is fast-becoming a prerequisite for competing on the international stage,” said Andrew Rosen, CEO of Interfolio. “AIM is defining a new standard for graduate education in the region, and their deep commitment to faculty development and innovation is a major driver of that success.”

BELLINGHAM, WA – October 24, 2019 – Interfolio announced today that it has been selected by Western Washington University to employ its platform enabling faculty to complete review, promotion, and tenure processes and allow current faculty and administrators to review their peers and evaluate tenure and promotion candidates’ qualifications and backgrounds.

Through its partnership with faculty information system Interfolio, faculty and administrators at Western will now have access to a single platform for the review, promotion, and tenure processes. Using the Interfolio platform, members of the university’s faculty committees can share candidate materials with the appropriate university administrators and solicit letters of recommendation, streamlining the review process while maintaining existing workflows. Promotion and tenure committee members can now review applicant materials within the Interfolio platform, allowing them to more efficiently and quickly read the necessary documents.

Promotion candidates receive clear instructions on the tenure process along with simple tools to build a professional-looking digital packet of their materials, ensuring that they have the information necessary to be successful.
